Baseball Round Table

As the baseball postseason heats up, so does the Moonlight Graham Studio. This week Tim sits down with a trio of Dowling Maroon baseball’s recent legends. These guys are ready to talk about all things baseball, from the new announcements about Minor League Baseball to the current postseason. Jason McMurray, Spencer Navin, and Zach Coppola had successful careers in the CIML before heading off to Division I programs, summer leagues, and pursuing professional careers.

Jason McMurray was a three-sport standout athlete at Dowling. He was heavily recruited for baseball and had narrowed down his list of schools until a last minute coaching change at Notre Dame made him the first signee of a new coach and the first member of his class for the Irish. McMurray went back to Iowa to play for Iowa Western and lighting up the scorebook for the National Champion Reivers.  McMurray finished his career playing for Old Dominion University.

Spencer Navin was also a three-sport star for the Maroons. After starting his career as a shortstop, Navin was moved to catcher and found his calling. Navin was recruited to play catcher at Vanderbilt University and was part of the emergence of that program. He was a two year starter before being selected by the Dodgers in the 2011 draft. Navin spent 4 years in the Dodgers’ minor league system.

Zach Coppola followed up a stellar career at Dowling with an outstanding career for the South Dakota State Jackrabbits. Coppola was a 3-year star outfielder and stealing bases in Brookings. He finished his career with 62 stolen bases and second on the school’s all-time list. Coppola was selected in the 13th round of the 2014 draft by the Philadelphia Phillies. He went on to spend 4 seasons playing minor league baseball and swiping another 85 bases.

These guys have spent a lot of time on the diamond and have great stories and unique perspectives. It's a room full of baseball guys talking about baseball stuff at the most exciting time of the baseball season.
